It is common in today’s ultra-fast paced society
to hear people talk about the struggle to achieve work-life balance.
The truth is that the pursuit needs to be that of life balance.
While excellence in the workplace is admirable, there
are other things in life that are simply more important
than work. For instance, your relationship with your
spouse, time with your children, and having good health
are more important than work. Your spiritual and emotional
well-being is also more important than work. The fact
is, a serious breakdown in any of these areas will immediately
dominate your life.
Please understand that I am in no way down playing the
importance of succeeding in a career. It is quite
to the contrary. I am simply giving due regard
to life aside from work. It is my premise that
you can have great success in any pursuit by maintaining
balance in the other areas of life that matter.
There is little doubt that being out of balance will,
in time, render anyone ineffective in his/her career.
This is because it is impossible to maintain focus at
work while in the midst of crisis in other areas of life.
I learned this the hard way many years ago and began
searching for and developing a systematic approach to
becoming balanced. This approach helps anyone from the
Stay-at-Home Parent to the CEO have a fulfilling and
productive life.
The concepts I teach are simple and proven. They work
to develop overall balance on what I call the Macro level
(broad scale), and create higher efficiency at the Micro
level, meaning when applied in a specific area, such
as a work setting.
Stress, worry, frustration, quickness
to anger, irritability, health issues, feelings of being
overwhelmed, emptiness, disillusionment, depression,
struggles in important relationships,
and work place crisis, can all be symptoms of a lack
of life balance.
Obtaining balance can only happen by
design and involves a process of first discovering what
roles are in need of balance and then learning the life
management techniques that allow you to thrive in all
those roles. Once you have mastered the principles and
techniques of creating a balanced lifestyle, you will
have more fun, experience more joy in everyday moments,
feel more fulfilled, have a greater ability to maintain
focus and be more productive and efficient in all corners
of your life.
